Given the poor quality of irrigation water and the general context of water shortage, this pilot’s theme focuses on the valorisation and use of brackish water in irrigation.

This technique (use of brackish water in irrigation) is widely known and has been used for many decades in a number of Mediterranean countries as it is both efficient in irrigation and does not have any negative impacts on the quality of soil.  Hence, this demonstration pilot aims to provide the farmer with a technological package that would enable the sustainable use of brackish water in intensive irrigation while waiting for the validation of the results of another pilot implemented in Tunisia and which aims to demonstrate the efficiency of the use of the desalinated brackish water in irrigation.
