The objective of the socio-economic component, which represents one of the two main aspects of the SASS II project, is twofold:
- To enrich the achievements of the hydrogeological knowledge of the SASS water resources by providing socio-economic and environmental data that describe the agricultural behaviour and operation of farms and especially the behaviour of the irrigator while focusing on his adaptation capacity to the challenges that threaten the sustainability of the agricultural systems. Challenges include water resources depletion caused by excessive overexploitation and the negative impacts of climate change.
- To elaborate a hydro-economic model which integrates the two major dimensions of a sustainable management of the aquifer, namely its physical behaviour and the impacts of human activities on its sustainability.
