This pilot focuses on the way to increase water efficiency in irrigation and fight land degradation in a region that comprises considerable water resources. It aims to improve agricultural land quality by using on-farm drainage, establish a better management of water resources through soil desalination and strengthen the farming system in the region.

The final outcome of this pilot is to increase farmers’ revenues and improve their livelihoods.

The theme of this demonstration pilot is twofold:

• address bad drainage practices and provoke a progressive desalinisation process;
• opt for a better economic and agricultural irrigation efficiency and strengthen the oasis production system.
