The sites to be covered by the socio-economic and environmental surveys were identified following a number of meetings with people in charge of water resources management in the three concerned countries.

These sites include:

• five sites in Algeria (Biskra, El Oued, Ouargla, Gardai, and Adrar);
• three sites sin Tunisia (Nefzaoua, Djérid, Tunisian Jeffera);
• three sites in Libya (Libyan Jeffera, central coastal zone of Juffra).
